Colombo Stock Exchange's ASPI hit a record 14,035, up 1.09% (150.72 pts) on Dec 12. Investors were upbeat ahead of the ISB bid deadline, with top contributors Ceylon Beverage, Hatton National Bank, Sampath Bank, John Keells and Commercial Bank and a foreign net inflow of 306 million rupees.
ASPI rose 0.8% to 13,885, crossing a 30% year-to-date gain while turnover topped Rs.6 billion, led by John Keells, LOLC, Digital Mobility (PKME), Dialog (DIAL) and Sampath Bank (SAMP). The market closed positive for a 12th consecutive day with notable retail and HNW participation.
Colombo Stock Exchange rose with the ASPI up 0.80% (110.13 pts) to 13,885 and the S&P SL20 up 0.73% to 4,143 on turnover Rs6bn. Major contributors included capital goods and diversified financials, with gains for Ceylon Beverage, Sampath Bank, Melstacorp and John Keells; foreign net outflow Rs393mn.
The Colombo market ended the post-election week with ASPI down 1.1% for the week (S&P SL20 down 2.7%) but closed yesterday up 0.56% on below-average turnover of Rs.1.9bn. Banking stocks led turnover (Seylan, Pan Asia, Sampath, HNB) while BREW, COMB, CINS, SEYB and DIPD were top positive contributors and JKH dipped.

Jonathan Alles has been appointed to the Board of Hayleys PLC as an Independent Non-Executive Director. Alles is a former MD/CEO of Hatton National Bank with over 37 years' banking experience and was recently appointed to the boards of United Motors Lanka, Ceylon Beverage Holdings and Lion Brewery.
Colombo Stock Exchange closed up, with the All Share Index rising 0.05% to 12,171 and the S&P SL20 up 0.14% to 3,595. Turnover was 1.3 billion, top turnover generators included Commercial Bank, Hayleys, John Keells and Sampath Bank, and there was a net foreign outflow of 21 million rupees.
Ceylon Beverage Holdings PLC appointed Jonathan Alles, Ajay Bhaskar Baliga and Saktha Amaratunga as Independent Non-Executive Directors; Alles and Amaratunga were also appointed to the board of Lion Brewery Ceylon PLC.
Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka (DCSL) said excise duty hikes to Rs6,840 per absolute proof litre and other taxes have raised legal alcohol prices ~58%, reduced its sales and are pushing consumers toward illicit kasippu. The company warned the wider taxation gap is expanding the illicit market, harming legal producers.
