Colombo market closed the week higher as ASPI and S&P SL20 rose about 2% (ASPI 16,937, +358 pts) with turnover Rs.5 billion, led by banks, capital goods and food & beverage stocks ahead of the 2025 Budget.
Colombo bourse fell as the ASPI dropped 1.01% to 16,566 with turnover of Rs.2.07bn and foreigners closing as net sellers. CINS and JKH were among the main negatives while SAMP and GUAR were top positives; banking led turnover (29%) and capital goods plus food & beverage accounted for 33%.
Hemas Holdings reported consolidated 3Q FY25 earnings of Rs.3.0bn, up 36.3% YoY, on turnover of Rs.33.2bn (+6.4%) and operating profit of Rs.4.9bn (+25.7%). The group cited a 47.4% fall in net finance expenses from lower interest rates, declared an interim dividend of Rs.1.00/share, and flagged improving consumer demand and policy-driven recovery.
Colombo bourse sustained upward momentum as the ASPI rose 0.4% and the S&P SL20 gained 0.3% on turnover of Rs.6.35 bn; BIL, RICH, HNB, CFIN and LOLC were top positive contributors while JKH fell. Foreign investors were net sellers with a Rs.300 mn outflow.
