Port of Colombo recorded a record throughput of 8,291,178 TEUs in 2025, the highest in its history. The increase from 7,792,069 TEUs in 2024 was driven by coordinated performance across SLPA terminals and operators (CICT, SAGT, CWIT), reinforcing Colombo's role as a South Asian transhipment hub.
Central Bank Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe said Sri Lanka's economy could exceed 5% growth in 2026 driven by reconstruction spending after Cyclone Ditwa, including an extra Rs 500 billion on top of about Rs 1.4 trillion in public investments.
