Hayleys PLC (via Hayleys Plantations) has partnered with UNDP BIOFIN to implement Payment for Ecosystem Services projects across its estates, covering Talawakelle Tea Estates, Horana Plantations and Kelani Valley Plantations. Projects include watershed conservation, biodiversity-restoration with tourism integration and a PES model evaluation.

Hayleys Plantations, partnering with UNDP BIOFIN, is advancing Payment for Ecosystem Services projects at Talawakelle Tea Estates (Great Western, Wattagoda), Horana Plantations' Bambarakelly Estate and Kelani Valley's Halgolla Estate to fund watershed protection, biodiversity restoration and tourism-linked conservation.

Hayleys PLC's transportation and logistics arm Advantis has embedded an ESG strategy (HELIOS) across its operations and launched Advantis Blue C and Advantis Green C ecosystem restoration programmes, including mangrove projects and an MoU with Horana Plantations.

Hayleys Plantations launched 'Regenerate', a unified ESG roadmap joining Talawakelle (TPL), Kelani Valley (KVAL) and Horana (HOPL) across 55 estates and ~14,000 ha with 2030 targets including a 42% reduction in Scope 1–3 emissions and 95% renewable-energy reliance. The plan also targets 90% regenerative agriculture, zero deforestation, 100% supplier ESG screening and digital/AI monitoring.

Hayleys PLC led World Environment Day 2026 activities across its plantation group, with Kelani Valley, Talawakelle and Horana plantations running tree-planting, awareness campaigns and Talawakelle launching the Hill Country Green Force volunteer initiative.

First Capital says listed plantation firms AGAL, KGAL, KOTA and HOPL are well positioned to benefit from rising rubber prices as rubber makes up about 15%+ of their revenue. Dipped Products and exporters may also gain from higher rubber prices and rupee depreciation, while Kelani Tyres could face margin pressure.

Horana Plantations PLC (part of Hayleys) launched T-SHADE, a Verra-registered shade-tree carbon credit pilot that has restored 55 hectares and planted 7,094 shade trees and aims to scale to 100,000 hectares over a 40-year crediting period.

The ceremony highlighted tea plantation, sustainability and export excellence for the awarded firms.

Australia’s Market Development Facility screened a documentary and held a June 27 event to showcase the revival of Sri Lanka’s specialty coffee, supporting 2,407 smallholder farmers and generating LKR 280,202,502 in partner revenue. The forum included industry and government stakeholders (including Kahawatte, Horana and Hayleys) and highlighted export and investment opportunities ahead of the Sri Lanka Coffee Festival.

Horana Plantations PLC's Neuchatel Estate (902 ha) has diversified into rubber, oil palm (124 ha), coconut and cinnamon, adopted digital weighing and secured EU Deforestation Regulation certification. The estate also runs community welfare, beekeeping and soil- and water-conservation initiatives that generate additional income.
