Colombo Stock Exchange closed down: ASPI fell 0.48% to 22,253.52 and S&P SL20 fell 0.25% to 6,199.97, with market turnover of 1.18 billion rupees. Top gainers included Vallibel Power Erathna and Hatton National Bank, while John Keells, Aitken Spence, DFCC and Commercial Bank were among the main decliners.

Vallibel Power Erathna PLC (VPEL.N0000) said its 10 MW ground-mounted solar PV project at Dolahena Estate has commenced commercial operations effective 10 September, with the two 5 MW plants connected to the national grid and CEB confirmation.

Lanka Tiles PLC has appointed Harsha Amarasekera as a Non-Executive Director; he also joins the board of Lanka Walltiles PLC. Amarasekera is an experienced attorney and currently holds leadership roles at Sampath Bank, CIC Holdings, Swisstek, Vallibel Power Erathna and Royal Ceramics.

Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody warned that lobbying for higher feed-in tariffs would raise consumer bills, noting solar prices paid to new producers have fallen from 37 → 27 → 24 → 18 rupees. He cited 30% cheaper panels, a stronger rupee, competitive low bids (e.g. Vidullanka ~3.77 USc/kWh) and additional grid/BESS costs.

LAUGFS Power (LPL.N0000) appointed Russell De Zilva as CEO and Non-Independent Director. De Zilva brings 20+ years in renewable energy and is currently Joint CEO of Vallibel Power Erathna (VPEL.N0000), with experience in hydropower, wind, solar and floating solar projects.

ASPI gained about 108 points to 18,946 on Rs. 9.1 billion turnover, led by the Capital Goods sector; John Keells, Commercial Bank, Access Engineering, Hayleys and LOLC were top contributors and banking names including HNB and Sampath also recorded gains.

Vidullanka PLC launched the Colombo Stock Exchange's first-ever listed Sukuk. The asset-backed, Shariah-compliant instrument creates a new financing route for renewable energy and infrastructure projects that could benefit other listed power companies.

Lanka Tiles PLC appointed Haresh Somashantha as an Executive Director. He currently serves as Director Finance of Royal Ceramics Lanka PLC and is also a director of Hayleys Fabric PLC and Vallibel Power Erathna PLC.

Vallibel Power Erathna (VPEL.N0000) signed a 20-year SPPA with the Ceylon Electricity Board for a 10 MWac ground-mounted solar PV project in Matara, with ~2 billion LKR investment and expected annual output of 18–20 GWh.
