C.W. Mackie PLC appointed Asoka Piyadigama as an Executive Director effective 1 August 2026. He currently serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director of York Arcade Holdings and Acme Printing and Packaging and sits on committees within the CFLB Group.
The Colombo market hit an intraday record of 24,052.06 but closed flat, with the ASPI down 0.01% at 23,953.09 and the S&P SL20 up 0.20% at 6,663.12. Turnover was over Rs.5.4bn; York jumped 24.81% while SAMP, RICH, DFCC, CTHR and CARG were top negative contributors.
Darley Butler bought 15 million York Arcade shares for Rs.198 million, raising its holding to 15.9m shares (10.6%). Darley Butler is a subsidiary of E.B. Creasy (EBCR); Lankem Ceylon (LCEY) holds a 50.15% controlling stake after buying from Colombo Fort Land & Building (CFLB).
ASPI rose 0.03% (7.45 pts) to 23,813.77 while the S&P SL20 slipped 0.02% to 6,617.85; turnover was Rs.8.3 billion and foreigners were net sellers with a reported net outflow of Rs.144.6 billion. Top contributors included HNB, DFCC, UML, RICH and ASCO, with DOCK, HAYL and SFCL dragging the index.

ASPI fell 1.47% to 22,644.88, a five-week low, while the S&P SL20 dropped 1.33% to 6,279.71. Declines in banks and blue-chips led losses (notably HNB, RICH, NDB, SAMP and JKH); turnover was Rs.4.95bn with foreigners net buying ~Rs.83.2m and heavy activity in Hemas, DOCK and York.
Lankem Ceylon (LCEY.N0000) acquired a 49.27% stake in York Arcade Holdings (YORK.N0000) from Colombo Fort Land & Building (CFLB.N0000) for Rs. 340.58m (369,495 shares at Rs. 921.75 each). The company said the purchase supports its financial restructuring and consolidates ownership in York Arcade.
